Understanding the data and methodology behind the insights.

Our Mission

Paper Trails is an AI-powered analytical tool designed to bring clarity and insight to Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) participation data. Our mission is to empower educators, policymakers, and researchers with actionable data visualizations and AI-driven policy recommendations to foster educational equity and improve outcomes for all students.

Data Sources

The data used in this application is based on a compilation of publicly available statistics and reports from various sources covering the years 2020 through 2024. A full list of references can be found on the References page.

Disclaimer: The data presented here is a representative sample compiled for demonstrative purposes. While based on real-world trends, it should not be used for official reporting or academic citation without cross-referencing official publications.

Methodology

Our analysis involves several key steps:

  • Data Aggregation: We collect and structure data on candidature numbers, regional distribution, gender, and age groups.
  • Trend Analysis: We use statistical methods to identify patterns, year-over-year changes, and significant trends within the aggregated data.
  • Data Visualization: Interactive charts and graphs are used to present these trends in an accessible and understandable format, allowing for easy exploration and comparison.
  • AI-Powered Recommendations: The "Policy Recommendation Tool" utilizes a large language model (LLM) from Google. This model is prompted with the summarized data trends to generate targeted, context-aware policy suggestions and their rationales. The AI acts as an expert consultant, trained to analyze educational data and propose strategic interventions.
